Zinc Flake (Delta-MKS)
Zinc Flake (Delta-MKS) is Zinc flake or Zinc-Aluminium flake system of cathodic protection without Chromium (VI), providing the micro coating thickness with high-performance corrosion protection.
Zinc flake coating can be achieved protective effects against base metal corrosion (red rust) as per salt spray test (SST) up to 1,500 hours or above follow customer’s requirement
A coating of zinc flake is a ‘paint’ made up of a lot of little flakes, which primarily protects components of various types from corrosion.
Through the sacrificial effect of the less noble zinc it provides active protection from environmental influences: this form of corrosion protection is called cathodic protection.
Zinc flake coating generally contain a combination of zinc flake and aluminum flake (as per DIN EN ISO 10683 or DIN EN 13858), which are fused together by an inorganic matrix.
Due to its ability to perform well with coatings of minimal thickness, the zinc flake concept has become most widely used for screws and fasteners in automotive industry and also increasingly being used for construction machines and in the field of renewable energy.
During the coating process, no hydrogen is produced and thus no danger exists of any hydrogen-induced embrittlement. For this reason, zinc flake coating is also particularly well suited to high-strength steels of classes 10.9 and 12.9 / of 1,000 MPa and above.
DELTA-MKS® products-divided up by base coats and top coats – and their features, plus possible application techniques and areas of use / markets.
Basecoat: The basecoat is the zinc flake coating and is applied directly to the substrate to be treated. This base layer determines the corrosion protection properties. The zinc content provides a high level of cathodic corrosion protection.
Topcoat: The topcoat complements the properties of the basecoat, and gives the coating additional multifunctional properties.
In addition to corrosion protection, the topcoat protects against chemical and mechanical impacts and is responsible for the:
- Requirements of coefficient of friction
- Media resistance
- Weathering resistance
- Appearance
- Other individual requirements
